Offered through Coursera and taught by Drs Eric De Brabandere and Giulia Pinzauti of the Universiteit Leiden, The Arbitration of International Disputes explores the role of international arbitration as a common method of settling international disputes. The course seeks to investigate whether international arbitration can lead to a peaceful world by settling disputes between states and between non-state actors and states. In answering that question, students will learn about the history and central concepts of arbitration, study key cases relating to the Law of the Sea, and focus on investment arbitration.
Through content-rich lessons, students will deepen their insight into international arbitration and gain a better understanding of many historical and contemporary issues, including the intimate relationship between arbitration and politics.
